Annotation

This volume on language acquisition offers data from exotic (ergative) languages and less familiar languages, considering foremost languages spoken in non-urban contexts (except for Scandinavian and Mandarin). It is argued that the timing of the acquisition of grammatical forms is related to their conceptual content and thus to cognitive development. Furthermore standard assumptions regarding the link between grammatical relationships and semantic roles are challenged.
