This paper deals with the Polynesian languages Wallisian and Futunan, the linguistic effects of 19th century colonialism, and the post-World War II sociolinguistic problems, mainly initiated by mass migration to New Caledonia and the new status of Wallis and Futuna as French overseas territory.
