Annotation

This article discusses the language use in the Catholic Church in Yaounde, the capital of Cameroon. Whilst the country's joint official languages French and English and the minority languages Beti and Bassa are used as liturgical languages, the other minority languages of the capital city are mainly employed for singing and sometimes for epistle reading. The choice of these minority languages appears to be defined by various non-sociolinguistic factors.
