Annotation

This paper discusses the actual multilingual language-repertoire situation of and the use of code-mixing, code-switching and borrowing by speakers of Mussau-Emira (St Matthias Group of islands of Papua New Guinea), including Mussau-Emira, Tok Pisin, and English. Questions of identity, cultural changes due to broader contact, political change, and a remarkable degree of dialect leveling within the three Mussau dialects are also addressed.
