Annotation

Drawing on field research among chiefly Ubon Ratchathani university students, this study indicates an interjacent diglossic relationship in Northeast Thailand in which Central Thai makes up the High and phasa isan the Low variety. This link is reviewed with respect to nationalism, social hierarchy, and language maintenance and shift.
