Annotation

This paper re-assesses Discernment and its fitness as device in politeness inquiry. Discernment politeness limns quasi obligate linguistic conduct. It aids to grasp hierarchical relationships in the distant past. As a second-order notion it is a utile analytical device for distant cultures. Late Egyptian and Old English pertain to strictly hierarchical societies, and as such, they constitute non-individualistic cultures with little room for strategic politeness.
