Annotation

This paper investigates how structural features of complex, artful prose affect readers and how readers deal with problems imposed by such complexities. The story used in this study, "A Rose for Emily" by Faulkner, represents a complex instance in which there are several embedded levels and many gaps that require constructive activity on the part of the reader.
