The paper is concerned with (i) some criticisms of the semantic analysis of deixis proposed by F.Antinucci (1974: 'Sulla deissi'), (ii) a number of related topics (e.g. deixis and anaphora, discourse deixis, paralinguistic deixis). It is proposed to draw a distinction between contextual deixis (i.e. pragmatic strategies for the identification of referents) and lexical deixis (i.e. the 'crystallization' of some such strategies in the lexicon).
