Annotation

This study compares ideological approaches to first language education in the Australian and Hong Kong school system. The Australian emphasis in language education appears to be social, functional and communicative, whilst the Chinese emphasize formal correctness and integration of language, morality and aesthetics. These different ideological inclinations point to similar societal orientations and affect the discourse practices at the classroom situational level.
