Annotation

In order to further an empirically grounded description of changes in Received Pronunciation (RP), this paper acoustically investigates patterns of variation in word-final open weak syllables and in past and present/plural suffixes in the interview speech of eight young speakers of modern RP. The findings demonstrate variation in happY vowels for some speakers according to phonetic environment, and KIT/schwa variation in the inflectional suffixes indicates a tendency to maintain KIT-like values.
