This paper examines Arabic-as-a-second language maintenance and shift amongst Arabized Malays (Makkawiyiin), who were born in Saudi Arabia, and perfectly acquired and adopted Arabic language and culture. As Malay is the medium of instruction, Arabic language shift is observable, although subjects try to remedy this by passing on the Arabic language to their children.
