Annotation

Drawing on data from two Thai newspapers, namely Thai Rath, and Ma-ti Chon, for the period from January 2004 to April 2006, this paper explores the formation of Thai political slang in Thai daily newspapers, and readers' attitudes towards slang use. The metaphorical conceptual meanings of Thai political slang mainly signified war and related concepts and about 71% of the respondents correctly identified slang meaning and agreed with the use of political slang in newspapers.
