This paper examines Hungarian undergraduates' (perceptions of their) socio-cultural and linguistic experiences as au pair in the U.K. Notwithstanding the improvement of their (spoken) English proficiency, and their positive attitudes towards native English speakers and their culture, they experienced difficulties in establishing closer links with them.
