Drawing on theoretical approaches from the domains of cultural and music studies, and from postcolonial analysis, this paper on the relationship between world music and cross-cultural dialogue in an increasingly globalised world, describes how world music's discursive logic rearticulates the meaning and importance of the Buena Vista phenomenon (referring to Ry Cooder's award winning album the Buena Vista Social Club).
