This paper explores the long term benefits -(bi/multi language proficiency, cognitive development and academic achievement- of an additive model of curriculum delivery in South Africa, focusing on the Additive Bilingual Education (ABLE) Project, which started in 2003 at a school of predominantly first language isiXhosa speakers in the rural Eastern Cape.
