Drawing from articulation and critical race theory and discourse analysis, this study explores the discordant socio-racial discourses mobilized in reaction to the Jeremiah Wright media spectacle during the 2008 American presidential election. It is argued that the concurrent articulation of multiple socio-racial discourses rendering different commitments, questions the very basis of the racial transcendence discourse.
