Annotation

This discourse analytic study explores the interactional achievement of trust in a particular, communicatively demanding encounter in a gastro-intestinal clinic, where the patient is seeking a second opinion after an operation that she considers unchancy. The study expands beyond doctor-patient interaction to cover a co-constructed consultation letter to the referring doctor to reinforce the brittle patient–doctor trust produced thus far.
