Employing conversation analytic and interactional linguistic techniques and drawing from naturally occurring American English interaction, this paper explores the practice of closing polar questions with or and speakers' thus achieved interactional work, furthering the comprehension of how speakers codify linguistically and how linguistic units are adjusted for interaction.
