Elderly carers' speech overadjustment in a Singaporean eldercare facility -rather patronizing, whereas adjustment eases interaction- is linked to prevalent negative (alongside positive) cultural stereotypes of aging. Overadjustment was found to qualitatively differ according to the elderly persons' physical and cognitive skills, with healthy elderly approached as school-aged children and those with dementia as infants.
