Annotation

It is shown how care worker constructions of ‘shock’ and ‘disbelief’ and invocation of (appalled) mental states vis-à-vis the misuse of learning disabled adults in residential care, revealed by the BBC Panorama program ‘Undercover Care: The Abuse Exposed’, serve to distance themselves (as 'insiders') from the maltreatment.
