Annotation

This article proposes the transcultural translation method as working option to the separatist and nationalist discourses piled with essentialist ideologies. Within this translation dynamics, the clash between the ethnocentric power and peripheral minority is substituted with collaborative crossing of belonging senses and political voices to escape the disruptive results of the dichotomizing rhetoric. The American writer Paul Bowles’ plan for translating Moroccan culture in the context of his co-operation with the Moroccan preliterate narrator Mohamed Mrabet may be, thus, understood via the transcultural prism, which is in this case subtly endorsed by the Tangier contact zone.
