Annotation

The organizational communication domain has been ruled by the Euro-American intellectual tradition. In order to generate a multicultural domain, this inquiry suggests a Chinese-focused view to explore organizational communication in Mainland China. Founded on a search of the Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) database employing the key words “organizational communication,” 129 articles edited from 1996 to 2014 were gathered. Using a Chinese-focused view, a codebook was developed based on the thematic assay of the gathered articles. A content analysis was used to assay year-to-year distributions, organizational communication definitions, topical areas, theoretical orientations, and methods that were reported in the articles. The findings were used to map the actual trajectory of organizational communication research in China. Based on the findings, it is advised that organizational communication scholars recognize local philosophies and construct local frameworks in order to foster the global inclusivity of the domain of organizational communication.
