Annotation

Korean speakers employ two ‘formality’ endings to perform social actions in interaction. ‘Deviant’ cases from the traditional perspective narrate how people really code-switch. Two endings are selectively employed to negotiate pertinent identities of the listener. Two endings in distinct positions co-occur with varying linguistic devices. This paper displays dynamic grammar use driven by the precise pragmatic import.
