This book addressess three constraints on linguistic variation: linguistic structure, social structure and identity, and social and linguistic perception. By taking into consideration both structure and meaning, this study explores the most considerable issues surrounding variation theory, including canonical studies and terms, and challenges to them. It also deals wit research in non-English and non-European contexts.
