Language as a subject
This book proposes that the integration of discourse analysis, rhetoric and social theory yields new insights into the systemic, functional, and social features of everyday texts. The author applies these perspectives to a car advertisement, financial advice booklets and a speech pathologist’s progress report, paying special attention to issues of identity, social classification, authority, and expertise.
