Abstract
In interview, Dutch artist Aernout Mik discusses his video work entitled 'Training Ground' which was exhibited at the Venice Biennale in 2007. The interviewer, Dominic van den Boogerd, explains that 'Training Ground' is a fictional documentation of a border police training exercise on the Dutch-German border where a team of agents are charged with arresting a group of people. Mik explains that video is a metaphor for the passport debate in the Netherlands and that the actors, who do not follow a clear-cut script, are acting out a kind of theater that relives oppression. Since completing 'Training Ground,' Mik has completed two further works entitled 'Mock Up, (2007), and 'Convergence,' (2007) which explore similar themes.
