Abstract

This paper focuses on two contemporary prize-winning writers of Caribbean origin, namely Junot Díaz and Edwinge Danticat, with the aim to unfold the so-called Caribbean discourse. It is suggested that through their books both writers aim to delve into the hidden history of violence that their nation has suffered and at the same time to tackle the shared Caribbean identity. Literature thus serves as a means to better understand historical traumas.
