Xie, Chaoqun. 2003. Review of Metaphor and Metonymy at the Crossroads. Modern Foreign Languages 79 (3) : 644–645.

Abstract

This book is composed of three parts. In the Introduction, a cognitive theory of metaphor and metonymy is presented, which is accompanied by the discussion of and comments on the common traits and existing problems concerning metaphor and metonymy. The first Section focuses on "The interaction of metaphor and metonymy, and other theoretical issues". The second Section, which is further divided into two subsections, deals with metaphor and metonymy in language structure and discourse. To round off, all the papers in this book have made a contribution to fill the gap between metaphor and metonymy by demonstrating that metaphor and metonymy often interact with each other 'at conceptual and linguistic crossroads', representing a further step forward in our understanding of how we perceive the language we use.
