Abstract

The paper discusses the role of conscious awareness of action for motor skill learning. It refers to a specific type of action awareness, namely the subjective awareness of action (SAA) and predicts its role for sensorimotor learning. It demonstrates that SAA benefits chunking, the learning related process behind every skilled sequential behaviour and, thus, predicts that our efficient sensorimotor behaviour lies on our ability to be consciously aware of our own motor capability and efficiency.
