Drawing upon the immense success of the novel “Fifty shades of Grey”, the article explores the complexities of sadomasochism. More specifically it posits an analogy between the acts of Dominance / Submission and the divine / human relationships; what looks like violence may in fact be an instrument to reproduce ecstasies of religious or generally spiritual nature. The paper focuses on the ways Hebrew religion approaches divine / human relationship attempting to uncover a potential underlying sadomasochistic ground.
