This paper argues that divorced mothers use a special type of communication when speaking to their children about their divorce experiences. Characteristics of divorced-related communication are: i) divorced mothers talk about their divorce as little trauma as possible, ii) they make a very general explanation for their divorce, iii) they construct a frame of how the child’s daily routine will be after the divorce and iv) they try to maintain an overall positive father image for their children.
