Abstract

The paper offers an analysis of two metaphors, viz. EVIL IS DOWN and EVIL IS DARK, found in horror movies and responsible for creating fear. For this reason, such parameters as metaphorical associations between verticality and affect as well as brightness and affect, respectively, are taken into account. Moreover, the author of the article draws an outline of how cinematic manifestations of such metaphors contribute to the extension of metaphorical concepts, and to what extent they keep those metaphors alive within a given culture.
