Abstract

This paper is based upon research by Jovchelovitch, Priego-Hernandez, and Glaveanu (2013), which shows how some factors like collectivist ideologies, poverty and marginalization accelerate children’s process of decentration. In this sense, children’s drawings reflect a strengthened connection (for their age) between the complexity of the public world around their lives. This paper explores the process of human development by considering the notion of poetic motion as a metaphor that centralizes the notion of emergence. A person developmental experience is highly influenced by aspects such as the uncertainty associated with poverty and marginalization, and affects both children and adults behaviour alike, especially in the establishment of a distance between the here-and-now and bridging their lives to the future. The whole process implies an vivid imagination. A case study is analyzed to understand the processes of meaning making in these negative conditions. We look at the interaction between the limiting factor of the negative developmental context and the psychological novelty elaborated via meaning construction processes.
