Abstract

This article reviews some studies demonstrating links between metaphor and personality. For example, they describe the study in which people have been asked whether they locate the self in the head or the heart. The findings of the study suggested that head people are (more) rational and cold, whereas heart people are emotional and warm. Based on the reviewed works, the authors conclude that individual preferences regarding metaphors might provide psychologists with important information concerning personalities. They also claim that both the personality and metaphor literatures could benefit from the research focused on relations between these two areas.
