Abstract

From the viewpoint of modern nomination theory, the metaphor is a cognitive mechanism through which abstract notions are interpreted in specific terms. The role of a scientific metaphor is to help the speaker formulate her discovery, whereas the hearer can understand the originality of the phenomenon described and follow new strategies to interpret it. The paper aims to devise thematic groups for metaphorical terms in the area of dentistry and maxillo-facial surgery.
