The development and construction of new words are closely associated with human beings’ cognitive experiences such as metaphor and metonymy. This paper discusses how new Chinese words are structured by using additional affixes and affixoids, and how the meanings of these news words are constructed. By the detailed elaboration of some examples, the paper illustrates that the formation of these Chinese new words are developed through human cognitive process and metaphorical ways of thinking. This paper aims to provide a new perspective on the study of new Chinese words. And it also provides a new method for future reference.
