Metaphor is more a way of cognitive thinking than a figure of speech. It enriches our way of expression both in terms of linguistic form and connotation. Applying metaphor in apparel vocabulary of Chinese and English represents diversity in language, and is a sign of flexibility and leisure. This study, through a systematic analysis of metaphor use in apparel related words both in Chinese and English, tends to explore the embodiment philosophy behind similarities and reasons behind the dissimilarities in terms of the cultural differences
