This article argues that it is not sufficient to study metaphors just on the basis of intuitive analysis and proposes a new way of studying metaphors from the perspective of psycholinguistics and cognitive neurosciences. It first provides evidence that metaphors should be studied from the new perspective so as to testify and verify the theories of metaphor. It also lists some examples of the studies from the new perspectives and suggests that the scientific experimental paradigm should be adopted to investigate the factors in metaphoric language performances and to explore the psychological mechanisms of the use and comprehension of metaphor in various contexts.
