Abstract
Event-structure metaphor is a type of metaphor in which elements of an event structure, such as the state, change, process, action, cause, purpose, means, etc., are metaphorically expressed in terms of space, force and motion. Drawing on theories of event-structure metaphor and conceptual integration, the paper analyzes the use of event-structure metaphor in The Lord of the Rings. It finds that in The Lord of the Rings, the metaphor “POWER IS RING” is realized through the integration of the concepts in the two input spaces of RING and POWER.
