Abstract

This article discusses a group of zoometaphors which act as pet names, or philonyms, in intimate lovers' talk. The author defines the semantic potency of zoometaphoric philonyms and substantiates the value preferences of society in mutual renaming. This article also deals with word-building features of philonyms.
