Abstract

This paper emphasizes the importance of metaphor in teaching pedagogy. The author starts her analysis by discussing pedagogical approaches, such those of Plato, Socrates and Russeau. Next, it is stated that metaphor constitutes a form of symbolic language and is therefore a useful learning method. Specifically, it is argued that teachers could use metaphors in various ways, such as in choosing the teaching methodology and in organizing the teaching experiences for their students. Moreover, pedagogical metaphors serve as a fundamental tool in language learning strategies, classroom assessment and in shaping educational paradigms and practices.
