Cungo, Ronald J and Kathy Thomas. 2009. A Book Review of Laura Ellingson’s Engaging Crystallization of Qualitative Research: An Introduction . The Qualitative Report 14 (2) : 111–115. 5 pp. URL
Abstract
This review emphasizes the contribution of Laura Ellingson’s (2009) work on crystallization. Crystallization constitutes a method in which researchers can extract clearer, brighter and more authentic empirical results. The authors state that Ellingson (ibid) attempted to apply crystallization to qualitative research by using a nontraditional approach. In addition, through her work, Ellingson (ibid) attempted to explain crystallization methodology and she has provided a framework for blended grounded theory and other social scientific analyses. She has used a variety of data such as: descriptive narratives, poetry, dance, theater and film. Moreover, the contribution of Ellingson’s (ibid) work is of great importance for qualitative research as the author offers guidelines for the improvement of social scientific and creative/artistic writing.
