This paper examines two facets in Gonzalo Chacón Trejos’ novel El crimen de Alberto Lobo. This novel is assumed to be historic. The connection between reality and the world of fiction is studied. Also, we look into the novel’s ironic and satirical discourse. This novel refers to events in the period of Costa Rican history from 1914-1919: the election of Alfredo González Flores as President, Federico Tinoco Granados’ coup d’etat and finally the demise of the dictatorship.
