Abstract

In this short article, I describe the role of the stone at the center of Hugo van der Goes’s Adoration of the Magi. It is a representation of Christ in the shape of a metaphor. According to what is told in the Book of Daniel, there was a statue of God that was broken into pieces by a non–human hand. The remainings was a piece, that metonymically represents God in the stone in Goes’s Adoration.
