This study examines the brain mechanisms when figurative language processing takes place, capitalizing on the pervasiveness of Chinese idioms. Whole-brain analyses indicated that both hemispheres are involved in idiom processing but they play different roles. Taking into account hemispheric functions, the findings are discussed in light of figurative language processing theories.
