Abstract

The authors investigate metaphor processing in correlation with IQ ratings and discuss the results of two experiments. According to the findings, firstly, metaphorical expressions seem to be more difficult to judge as false than literal and/or scrambled expressions, suggesting that metaphorical meaning is processed automatically. Secondly, IQ seems to correlate with working memory capacity in such a way that low IQ subjects, though presenting similar ratings, show poor interpretation skills.
