Abstract

This paper investigates communicative priorities and manifestness in ironic utterances in order to bring forth speaker’s intentions in interaction. This paper discusses aspects of ironic meaning, focusing on implicatures. It also presents the different degrees of manifestness. Finally, a dynamic model of ironic discourse is offered, introducing various dimensions of speaker and hearer’s perspectives.
