The present paper is a voice in the discussuion upon the conceptual nature of metaphor and the embodiment of meaning. It offers an analysis of selected cartoons by the Polish artist, Janusz Kapusta, which aims at exploring how the visual and the verbal modality presented in the proposed cartoons interact in spatialization of abstract ideas. The paper also argures that image schemas afford an excellect source domain for metaphors that are multimodally expressed in the analysed cartoons, i.e. metaphors realized both verbally and visually.
