Based on the exploration of propagation situation of Tao Te King in German version, this paper selects three representative German versions and builds a corpus. From the perspective of cognitive linguistics, this paper found that, the source domains of “mother”, “water”, “valley” and “infant”, through the targeted mapping mechanism of conceptual metaphor group, project their semantic meanings to “Tao”. In addition, after investigating the process of their semantic meaning construction, this paper summerized the semantic concept formation of “Tao”.
