This paper focuses on the ‘Academic Sandbox’ metaphor employed in four teacher educators’ stories to describe their scholarly identities. By using the qualitative research methodology of narrative inquiry, the four ‘Sandbox’ metaphors of ‘Play’, ‘Tantrums’, ‘Building castles’ and ‘Rebuffing backyard bullies’ are explored in different stories of academic formation and development.
